Who performed that song I heard at Chipotle yesterday? trumpet, bass clarinet, Neil Diamondish male voice, …

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

The music playing at Chipotle was more eclectic than I expected, though this was my first time at this particular branch. This one song was very interesting, I would like to track it down.

The male vocalist was reminiscent Neil Diamond. It may have actually been Neil Diamond, but probably not. But what made the song interesting was the dense but jazzy background texture provided by a bass clarinet, trumpet, and maybe another horn or two. The bass clarinet even took a short solo.

Does anyone know what this song might have been? If it helps, I heard it Monday, 27 Nov 2006, probably between 2:00 and 3:00 eastern time. The next track on their playlist was an a capella female vocal that sounded pre-boroque.

Which should I learn first? Bass Guitar or Trumpet?

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Which one is better to learn at a younger age.
I'm 15 and I i want to learn an instrument.
4 ppl say trumpet, 4 ppl say guitar. cmon, i need a tie breaker.

I agree with the answers which implore you to start on guitar or piano first. Guitar is easy to learn, easy to carry and inexpensive to buy in the beginning! Then just about anything but piano would easy.

But your question narrows things down to bass and trumpet. Now if you really want to learn either instrument, you need to learn how to read music. It doesn't matter which instrument you learn first, if you want to be good at it, and play with others, you must learn to read music! Bass guitar is definitely a group instrument. Even Wynton Marsalis only plays a few trumpet solos! (I played percussion with his father Ellis way back when.)

Now to answer your question, I played both of these instruments easily, early on, but I started on piano. I love bass guitar and trumpet. But the trumpet is so easy to carry around when you are not playing and is (unless muted) loud enough to carry over all but the loudest of bands without amplification. If you are playing large enough arenas that the trumpet needs to be amplified, you will have a sound man to take care of it for you! The bass always needs to be amplified and is not so easy to carry around.

Sometimes I like to play in he rhythm section (bass) and sometimes I like to take the lead (trumpet). Where do you feel like starting off? In a supporting (bass) role, or in a front man (trumpet) mode? Those are the questions you must answer. Each of these two instruments have their challenges and their easy points. But each of them must be practiced faithfully with written music. I still like them both. But at home, I play the bass more because I don't have to lug the equipment around!

I'm looking for a name of a band;it was consisted of guitar,bass,trumpet,etc?

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

I have seen this band on youtube one day and forgot about their name.
The band was consisted of guitar, bass, trumpet, saxophone, etc(I think)
The melody was very bright and cheerful, and the vocal was alot like a sort of rap.
I remember one of the song's lyrics were about having a girlfriend problem and whatsoever, but it doesn't matter because the sun was shining on me or something like that.
I also remember that one of their music videos was constantly a person(possibly the vocal) drinking beer from the start to the end.
I do not know what kind of genre I have to put their music in but I would say jazz like punk???
something like that.
So, if someone knows the band I'm talking about, please tell me...
Just can't get it off my head:(
Thanks!
actually there might not have been a guitar.....man I'm so lost:(

sounds a bit like the band Cake, but I'm not sure which song
